Sam Johnson Funeral service for Sam Johnson will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Jeremy Clearman and Reverend Ben Duke officiating. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery, with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Sam Johnson, 13, of Meridian, was born on May 31, 2000, and passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, in Meridian. He was a student at Clarkdale High School where he played baseball, basketball and football. He was a member of the 2013 Meridian Baseball All Star Team. He played with the Meridian Muddawgs Travel Baseball Team. Sam was a member of the youth group at Goodwater Baptist Church, and was a proud member of Team Maddie. Survivors include his mother, Diane Stephens Johnson of Meridian; brothers, James Ryan Phillips and Callen Blake Johnson both of Meridian; half-brother and sisters, Eric Johnson, Dena Johnson, Mike Johnson, Chad Rathel, Haley Rathel, Bradley Johnson and Angela Davis; grandparents, Paw Paw Clyde NeSmith and Papaw Pete Ethridge and Mamaw Rosie; special close nephew, Silas Johnson and cousin, Chase Stephens and a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence William Johnson and grandmother, Mamaw Elaine NeSmith. The family requests memorials be made to Team Maddie, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 12134 Old Highway 80 West, Meridian, MS 39307. Pallbearers will be Coach Robert Holladay, Coach Charles Crane, Coach Chet Nicklas, Coach Wes Roy, Coach Scott Gibson and Coach Joey Etheridge. Honorary pallbearers will be Coach Doug Stephens, Coach Brad Carmichael, Coach Snug Temple, Coach Butch Boswell, and Coach Derek Gibson.
