A graveside service for Sara M. Newton will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Semmes Cemetery on Mosby Road in Meridian with Father Carlisle Beggerly officiating, with burial to follow. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.
Sara Mosby Newton was born February 4, 1927, and passed away on July 17, 2026. She was the youngest child of Dr. Charles Porter Mosby and Mary Elizabeth Semmes Mosby. She was predeceased by her husband George J. Newton, Jr. as well as her sister Agnes Rand Bullock and brothers Charles, Joe, Herman, John and William (Dr. Billy).
She was a lifelong resident of Meridian and devout member of St. Patrick parish. She was always happiest cooking for her family and being of service to others. If there was a Guinness record for baking the most caramel cakes, she would be in the book-always quick to bake her famous cake for anyone that might be in need of one, whether they knew it or not.
She is survived by her children, Sherry Skelton (RV), George Newton (Sharron), and Sara Sikes (Shot); 6 grandchildren, Sharon Bucchin (Matt), Steve Skelton, George Newton IV, Jennifer Fox, Brad (Sarah), Spencer Sikes; 9 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Sue Mosby; as well as 18 nieces and nephews.
The family wants to thank North Pointe Health and Rehabilitation, Gentiva Hospice and Baptist Hospital for their wonderful and compassionate care.
