Sara "Sally" Boureau Scaggs

November 20, 1938 — January 29, 2025

Sara (Sally) Matilda Boureau Scaggs died January 29, 2025, at her home in Meridian, Mississippi, surrounded by family.

A native of Coral Gables, Florida, she graduated from Stetson University in 1961 with a Bachelor's Degree in English. It was while at Stetson that she met Bill, the love of her life and late husband of 59 years. Bill and Sally moved to Meridian in 1963 for what they expected to be a short period of time. How wrong they were for Meridian grew on them as they grew on Meridian. The couple reared four children in the Queen City. Together, they worked to engage in their community, and each served on a number of committees and boards for the betterment of their beloved community. Sally was particularly proud of her patronage of local artists. The Scaggs' art collection was notable and spanned decades.

A long-time member of the Episcopal Church of the Mediator, she served in numerous church-supporting roles. Sally's spiritual community had been a great support to her in her widowhood, and she reveled in her self-assumed role as The Dowager of the church's prayer shawl knitting group, the Knit-Wits.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Vivian Boureau, her husband, Bill, and a son, Ben. Survivors include a sister, Mary Lee Grove, a son, Frank (Wendy) of Fort Worth, TX, daughter-in-law Janice (Jackson), daughter Susan (Kimberly Monroe) of Dandridge, TN, and son Skip (Brenda) of Amory. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Wednesday, February 12 at 10:00 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Mediator in Meridian with a light reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Scaggs Family Fund at the Meridian Community College Foundation or the Episcopal Church of the Mediator.
