Funeral service for Sarah James will be held Friday, April 1, 2022, 2:00 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Matt Farmer officiating. Burial will be held at Magnolia Cemetery. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

Sarah Katherine Edwards James, age 89 of Meridian passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, March 28, 2022, surrounded by family and friends.

She was born on January 9, 1933, daughter of the late R.L. and Velma Spickard Edwards. She was a resident of Meridian, MS, and Lauderdale County. After graduating from Meehan School, where her father served as Principal, she attended East Mississippi Junior College, where she received an associate degree, majoring in education.

Sarah then married Richard D. James on April 10, 1952. They planned to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on Sunday, April 10, 2022, with family, friends, and caregivers.

She was a member of Central United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Meridian Jaycettes in her younger years, where she made life-long friends. She was also a member and past president of the Athena Literary Club and Meridian Junior Auxillary. She also served on the Board of several Civic and Charitable organizations. She loved to travel, read cookbooks, try new recipes, and dine in fine dining restaurants.

Sarah is survived by her husband of almost 70 years, Richard D. James; several nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. The family would like to thank her caregivers, especially Danny and "Cookie" Alexander, home health care, Faith Anderson, Bessie Gale, and Jennifer Collins.

She was preceded by in death by her parents, R.L. and Velma Edwards; sisters, Marie Alexander (Olan), and Mary Alice Atkison (Wesley P.); brother, R.L. Edwards, Jr. (Virginia); and nephew, Wesley Atkison.

Pallbearers are her nephews, Roy Price, Jr., Mike Thomas, Kenneth Counts, Murray Edwards, Eddie Alexander, and Danny Alexander.

Honorary Pallbearers are members of the Athena Literary Club and The Williams Sunday School class of Central United Methodist Church.

The James family will receive guests Friday, April 1, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service.
