Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Hubert, 103, of Meridian died Monday, February 13, 2012, at Rush Hospital. Scott Francis Hubert was born in Meridian, Mississippi April 12, 1908. His family's home was built in the late 1800's on 24th Avenue in Meridian. He graduated high school at St. Stanislaus in Bay Springs, Mississippi in 1927, and attended the University of Alabama the following year. He was the consummate Alabama football fan as his older brother, A.T. "Pooley" Hubert, later named a National Football Hall of Fame quarterback, had been the quarterback to take Alabama to the Rose Bowl in the 1920's and win. Scott played saxophone in the Alabama marching band. He played sports in high school, himself, but is best known to Meridian friends for his mental acumen and numerous tournament wins in bridge. He was a charter and lifelong member of the Meridian Bridge Club. Scott married Edwina Cunningham of Meridian in May of 1936. Theirs was a 62 year marriage, she a Presbyterian, and he Catholic. Scott's primary profession was as an accountant. He worked in government accounting along the gulf coast during World War II and also with the Mississippi Rural Electric Association. He developed and managed his own accounting and Bookkeeping Service Company serving small businesses in Meridian and surrounding area. He sent three children through school in Christian Liberal Arts colleges. He valued education. He played golf at all courses in Meridian. If asked how he lived to be almost 104, he might just say "eat three meals a day at a table with your family, read, walk, stay out of doctors' offices, and have family who pray for you faithfully." Also pick a winning sports team and have something to look forward to. He always picked Alabama. This year they won the national championship, again. He lived at Silverleaf Manor for the last ten years. Survivors include two daughters Dr. Edwina Elizabeth Hubert and Robin Marie Hubert both of Albuquerque, New Mexico; nephews Alison T. "Pooley" Hubert, Jr. of Roswell, Georgia, Tom Hubert of Birmingham, Alabama, and Scott Eidt of Houston, Texas, nieces Pat Naughton, Virginia Beach, Virginia and Sister Bernice Eidt of San Antonio, Texas.
