Funeral services for Sherman "Jack" Mack, Jr. will be held Saturday, November 14, 2015, at 12:00 p.m., at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home, with viewing and visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. prior to service. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Sherman "Jack" Mack, Jr. was born February 16, 1936 in Boyd, Alabama to Sherman and Sophia McDaniel. He accepted Christ as Lord at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Lawrence Lee. Sherman attended Brown Chapel Elementary School. At the age of fourteen years old, he moved to Meridian, Mississippi. In Meridian, he united with Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor E. G. Dickey where he served as trustee, deacon, Sunday school teacher and other positions. Later, he united with New Beginning Missionary Baptist Church, where Sherman served faithfully until his health begin to decline. Sherman graduated from Harris High School in 1957. Sherman graduated from Mississippi Industrial College, Holly Springs, Mississippi, in 1963. Sherman's professional year began as coach and teacher at Middleton School for four years, from 1964-1969. Sherman Mack was a coach and teacher at Southeast Lauderdale School for thirty-one years, from August 1969 to May 2000, so therefore, he was an educator and athletic coach for thirty-five years. In addition to working at Southeast Lauderdale, he taught summer school in the Meridian Public School System for twenty years. After retiring, he worked at Meridian Public School system as a substitute teacher and school bus driver until his health began to change. His favorite saying was, "If I had a brick". Sherman Mack was known for his loud comedic sense of humor, standout personality and his presence. Sherman Mack will be remembered as a mentor, disciplinarian, motivator, father, coach, teacher, leader, comedian and a friend. Sherman Mack's favorite hobbies were all sports and westerns. He will be dearly remembered by all his students as an affectionate and beloved teacher who gave his best to his students as a person of highest integrity, honesty and sincerity. Sherman Mack, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents Sherman and Sophia McDaniel, daughter, Anita LaArmour Mack, grandson, James Dontae Moss Nation Hisun and great-grandson, Nation Hisun. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Margie Thompson Mack; his five children, Connie Mack-Hilt, Lita (Wayne) Williams of Athens, Tennessee, Tara (David) Gordon, Jacques "Jack" (Dimples) Mack, Sr, of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Sherman (Da'Leena) Mack, III. Seven grandchildren, Jacques (Christina) Mack, Jr., Grace (Jesse) White, Jonathan (Veronica) Mack, Sophia Moss, Jasmine Hinton, Brittany (Dennis) Rivers and Josh Hinton, as well as twenty great-grandchildren. He's also survived by very dear and devoted close relatives, Burtons, Thomas, Fortner, Ott, Richardson, Inge, Hood, Brown and Jemison. Also extended family, Farmer, Hamilton & Birge; his dearly devoted friend, Jason Chisholm, and a host of many other relatives and a lifetime of numerous friends and students.
