Services for Shirley Ann Barber Scott will be held at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, 4223 Popular Springs Drive, on December 18th at 10:30 AM with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.  Visitation will be on December 17th from 5 to 7 PM at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home, Highway 39 North.  She will be interred in the Scott Family Cemetery, in the Scott Mountain Community, AL, Shirley Ann Barber Scott, 80, passed away peacefully at her home in Meridian, MS Sunday December 13, 2015.

Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by her parents Dr. William Jefferson Barber and Mrs. Mary Scurlock Barber of Butler, AL.  Dr. Barber was a noted physician in the Butler, AL area and is credited with opening the first in-patient hospital in Choctaw County, AL. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Edward Gray Scott, Jr. who practiced Cardiology in Meridian MS for many years. Shirley A. B. Scott and Edward G. Scott, Jr., both of Butler, AL, were married in 1956.  She also leaves behind 5 children and seven grandchildren. Her children are William J. Scott Sr. and his wife Dana D. Scott and their children Claire A. Scott, William J. Scott, Jr. and E. Owen Scott of Birmingham, AL; Michael G. Scott Sr. and his wife Sandy G. Scott and their children Logan F. Scott and Michael G. Scott, Jr. of Butler, AL; Don C. Scott of Starkville, Ms.; Leslie Scott Hooper and children John W. Hooper and Mari Conley Hooper of Birmingham, AL; Lisa Scott Rish of Orange Beach, AL.

Mrs. Scott graduated from Butler High School in 1954 and was the first drum majorette for the original high school band. She later attended college at the University of Alabama and graduated with a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education in 1959.  While at the University she was a member of Kappa Delta PI, an Honor Society in Education.  Mrs. Scott was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder and president of “Women of the Church” as well as a member of the building committee when the new addition was added.  She was a great believer in charity and participated in countless charity events throughout her life. Mrs. Scott enjoyed spending time with her large family at family vacations at the beach, hosting family Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at her house for many years, and attending her children and grandchildren’s various events. She was a happy and positive person who was always ready to lend a hand to those in need. She had many friends from many walks of life and appreciated good friendship, good company and good times wherever she was. She enjoyed life to its fullest in all her many activities and she will be missed greatly by her husband, children, grandchildren and many friends.
