Funeral services for Mr. Sidney Cecil Yates, RPh. will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Bro. Hubert Yates officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

Mr. Sidney Cecil Yates, age 73, of Meridian, Mississippi passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

Sid was born July 24, 1952 in Philadelphia, Mississippi to the late Cecil and Jenelle Burson Yates. He was a graduate of Philadelphia High School and The University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy. After graduation, Sid began a life-long career spanning 50 years as a pharmacist. He started at a small pharmacy in Winona, MS before relocating to Meridian where he worked at Riley Hospital and Anderson Regional Medical Center for over 35 years. In the last year of his career, he joined the pharmacy staff of East Mississippi State Hospital.

Sid met Tammy while working at Riley's and they were married June 4, 1984 and would have soon celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary. They shared a wonderful life together as they raised two sons, Tyler and Nolan. Throughout his life, Sid was a part of the Briarwood Baptist Church family where he sang in the choir and served as a former minister of music. He also attended NorthPark Church where he was active in the music ministry and taught Sunday school, a true labor of love.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved playing tennis as long as his health allowed, and took pride in maintaining a beautiful yard and garden. As a father, Sid was faithfully active in supporting his sons at countless athletic events throughout their lives. A survivor and a fighter, Sid achieved remission against multiple forms of cancer and bravely battled other numerous health issues. His family will remember Sid as a loving, diligent, and determined man of faith.

Mr. Yates is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Tammy Davidson Yates; his sons, Tyler and Nolan Yates; his siblings, Nelda Yates Mooney (A.W.) of Philadelphia, George B. Yates of Philadelphia, Bro. Hubert Yates (Tracey) of Brandon, Dr. Jeff Yates of Russellville, AR, and Barbara Edwards (Mike) of Philadelphia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sidney was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Jenelle Burson Yates of Philadelphia; his paternal grandparents, Dr. Claude Yates and Audie Harrison Yates of Philadelphia; his maternal grandparents, Hubert and Modena Fugler Burson of Calhoun City, Mississippi; and his mother and father-in-law, Mary Cooper and Tommy Davidson, Sr.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Yates, Nolan Yates, Dr. Jeff Yates, Colton Davidson, Ian Edwards, and Andrew Yates. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Davidson, Jr., Mike Jones, and Frank Boone.

In lieu of flowers, the Yates family suggests sharing memorial contributions with The Cancer Patient Benevolence Fund at Baptist Anderson Cancer Center in Meridian.
