Stephen Owen Moore
Memorial services for Steve Moore will be held Friday, August 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with The Reverend Brian Ponder officiating. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Moore, age 70, of Meridian passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at his home.
Steve was a lifelong resident of Meridian and graduated from Meridian High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Millsaps College and received a Fellowship to Duke University for Graduate School. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Mississippi where he was a member of Phi Delta Phi International and the Mississippi Law Journal where he served as Comment Editor and Special Projects Editor. After Law School, Steve served as Trust Officer at First National Bank of Jackson before returning to Meridian where he served as Senior Vice President and Trust Officer of Merchant and Farmers Bank of Meridian, then held the same positions at Bank of Meridian. He retired as a Financial Planner at Revels Securities and Smith Barney.
He was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church serving as Senior Warden, Vestry member, Lay Eucharistic Minister, Acolyte Sponsor, and Sunday School teacher. He also served 9 years as a Trustee of the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi.
He is a Director of the Phil Hardin Foundation, former Trustee of the Meridian Public Schools and Meridian Community College, and served on the Board of Directors of MCC Foundation, Kings Daughter’s Nursing Home, Care Lodge, and Boy Scout of America.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Joan Caton Moore; daughters, Alison Moore Abney (Luke) and Melissa Moore Blackburn (Jeb); grandchildren, Simms and Owen Abney and Caton, Ali, and Emerson Blackburn; brother, Dr. Daniel Moore (Laura); sister-in-law, Gloria Moore; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Houston Moore and Sara Harper Moore and brother, Dr. Lowry Moore.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Altar Fund.
