Stephen "Steve" Mcgowan Dyess, Sr.

Funeral services for Mr. Stephen “Steve” McGowan Dyess will begin at 11:00 am Friday, March 1, 2019 at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Ben Stears and Dr. Justin Qualls officiating. Interment will follow at Waynesboro Cemetery. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Mr. Dyess, 69, of Meridian, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Hospice of West Alabama surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Steve was employed as a loan officer and retired as Senior Vice President of Trustmark Bank of Meridian. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi where he was a former president of the Alumni Association; He was also a graduate of numerous banking schools, one of which being LSU and the University of Colorado. He attended North Park Church of Meridian. Steve was a member of Meridian Lions Club; and was an avid sports fan, especially of the USM Golden Eagles. He was affectionately known as “Pawpaw Ice” by his four grandchildren, whom he loved dearly and supported in all their endeavors. Mr. Dyess was an avid outdoors man, deer hunting, whenever his time allowed. He will be remembered by all for his love of people and life in general.

Mr. Dyess is survived by his children, Leah Rawson (James), and Stephen Dyess, Jr. (Cynthia), as well as the mother of his children, Kathy Dyess. Grandchildren, Logan Rawson, Landon Rawson, Jake Dyess, and Janie Dyess. Sisters, Jane Pruett, and Ann Hardy as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Otho and Lois Dyess; siblings, Rhonda Dyess, Sarah Brewer, William “Sonny” Dyess and Jerry Dyess, Sr.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Dyess, Jr., Bradley Bigler, Alex Bigler, Neil Henry, Jamaal Martin, and Drew Stribling. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Everitt, Jeff Lowery, Jon Frank Clark, Ted Spencer, Larry Dean, Lowry Rush, J.R. Felks, Kelvin Horne, and Will Carpenter.
