Sylvia Knight Lackey

d. August 7, 2015

Funeral services for Sylvia Lackey will be held Monday, August 10, 2015, at 11:30 a.m., at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home, with Reverend Wayne Smith officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Lackey, 81, of Meridian, passed away Friday, August 7, at Anderson Hospital. Sylvia Knight Lackey was born in Meridian, Mississippi on August 11, 1933, to Bassel and Vivie Knight. Aside from a few years spent in Atlanta, she was a lifelong resident of Meridian and graduated from Meridian High School. She was also a noted tap, jazz, and ballet dancer. On April 4, 1954, she married the love of her life, Harry Noel Lackey. This union was soon followed by three children: Harriet, Cindy, and Doug. They raised their family, supported their community and church and after nearly fifty years of marriage, she was left to be the matriarch of their family. She was past President and Club Champion of Briarwood Country Club, where she enjoyed golfing with her family and friends. She traveled all over the country to towns large and small, and enjoyed visiting foreign countries as well. If you knew her, you loved her. She wasn't a quiet little old lady; she was infectiously fun and beautiful. She had an easy poise and grace, and she was brave, adventurous, and elegant. She always made everyone around her feel like a more fabulous version of themselves when she spoke to them, even if it was in passing. She loved her babies and her greatest joy was in holding them and watching them grow. She is survived by her daughters, Harriet Harper and her husband, Ron, and Cindy Martin and her husband, Rick, and her son, Doug Lackey and his wife, Sherri; grandchildren, Justin Thomas and his wife, Sarah, Chase Harper and his wife, Michelle, Dylan Harper, Ashley Winkle and her husband, Steve, Ethan Ott and fiancé, Sydney Zajac, Hannah Catherine Lackey and Harrison Lackey; great-grandchildren, Bishop Bailey, Adylan Thomas, Coleigh Thomas, McCartney Thomas, Gunnor Winkle, and Briar Winkle; sister-in-law, Sunshine Rainey Knight, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry N. Lackey; parents, Bassel and Vivie Knight; and brother, Lamar Knight. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at robertbarhamffh.com. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00pm-7:00pm at the funeral home.
