Funeral services for Ms. Thelma Clayton will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Davy Wilkinson and Rev. Leon Ballard officiating.  Private family burial services will follow.  Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Ms. Thelma Clayton, age 89, of Meridian, Mississippi passed away Easter Sunday April 21, 2019 at Sumter Health and Rehabilitation in York, Alabama.

Ms. Clayton was born February 12, 1930 to Herman and Lorena McDaniel.  She grew up in Lauderdale, Mississippi and graduated from Lauderdale High School.  She lived most of her adult life in Meridian, Mississippi where she was a longtime Sears employee.  She later returned to Lauderdale, Mississippi where she lived her later years.

Ms. Clayton was a longtime member of the Lauderdale United Methodist Church and sang in the choir for many years.  She also enjoyed being a member of various garden clubs in the area.

Survivors include son, James H. Clayton (Ellen); daughter, Crystal Strickland (Larry); grandchildren, Mary Margaret Adams (Jonathan), Rebecca Barrier (Frederick), Ben Clayton (Nicole), Tiffany McConnell, Zane Winfield (Kathy); great grandchildren, Clayton Adams, Porter Adams, Sarah Tucker Barrier, William Barrier, Hayes Barrier, Lucy Clayton, Stella Clayton, Mary Ellen Clayton, Michael McConnell, Clayton McConnell, Maddie McConnell, Mary Katherine Winfield, and Whitt Winfield.  She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Ms. Clayton is preceded in death by her husband, James W. Clayton; parents, Herman and Lorena McDaniel; sister, Mary Newell; and grandson, Jonathan Strickland.

The family requests that memorials be made to a charity of donor’s choice.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24 at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home.
