Thomas Virgil "T.V." Smith

Funeral services for Mr. Thomas Virgil “T.V.” Smith will begin at 10:30 am Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home chapel with the Reverend Calvin Price officiating. Interment will follow at Phalti Baptist Church Cemetery in Jasper County. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Mr. Smith,89, of Meridian passed away Saturday, September 14, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Mr. Virgil was a carpenter for over 60 years, he owned his own business by turning his hobby into his passion, saying “If nobody won’t, I will.” One of his greatest personal accomplishments was building his own home, which still today, serves as a gathering place for his entire family and friends. He attended and was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church where he was a choir member, having formerly led the music as a layman, served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He will be remembered as a Christian, with extremely strong faith, sharing the gospel with anyone who would listen, wherever he ventured. In his time at home he often was found reading his Bible and many commentaries on the Bible. He also loved gardening and shared the fruits of his harvest with many people through the years. He was a loving father, who raised a strong family, teaching each member to love God, one another and people that they encountered in life.

Mr. T.V. is survived by children; Vivian Nicholson (Barry), Louise Walker (Chris); grandchildren, James Nicholson, Daniel Nicholson, Timothy Nicholson, Brittanie Gardner (Daniel), Lauren Walker; great-grandchildren, Weston Gardner and infant Ellee Gardner on the way. Special niece, Angela Pettis (David Williams), special friend, Tyler Shirley; a host of extended family and friends; as well as his beloved pets, Boots, Blackie, and Max.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mrs. Leona Estelle Pettis Smith; parents, William Chester and Annie Ola Smith; and siblings, Kelly Smith, William Chester Smith, Jr., Annette Davis and Stella Smith.

Pallbearers will be James Nicholson, Daniel Nicholson, Timothy Nicholson, Daniel Gardner, Jerry Tillman, and Tyler Shirley. Weston Gardner will be an honorary pallbearer.

The family suggest that memorials be made to St. Patrick Catholic School of Meridian in lieu of flowers.
