Thurman Hassel "Sonny" Carmichael, Jr. Services for Thurman Hassel "Sonny" Carmichael, Jr. will be held Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, with Reverend James Gibson and Reverend Bill Webb officiating. Burial will be in Providence Methodist Church Cemetery, between Carmichael and Melvin, with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Carmichael, 81, of the Clarkdale Community died Monday, November 25, 2013. He was retired from civil service with the United States Navy, and after retirement he was active in the Clarkdale Volunteer Fire Department. He also served as President of the Clarkdale Water Association. Mr. Carmichael was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of thirty-nine years, Gwendolyn Key Carmichael of the Clarkdale Community; sons, David Carmichael of Charleston, South Carolina, Danny Carmichael of St. George, South Carolina and Brad Carmichael of Meridian; step-sons, Tim Sollie and Scott Sollie both of Meridian; fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sylvia Donald Carmichael; parents, Thurman Carmichael, Sr. and Opal Buffington Carmichael and son, Donald Carmichael. Pallbearers will be Joe Sneed, Lloyd King, David Key, Alan Key, Mike Potate and Rusty Bonner. Family and friends may sign the online guest book at robertbarhamffh.com.
