Towanda Gibson McLelland Funeral services for Towanda Gibson McLelland will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Scottie Fulcher and Billy Burge officiating. Burial will follow in the Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. McLelland, age 66, of Butler, AL, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015 at her home. Towanda was born in Lenoir City, Tennessee, on June 4, 1948. While an infant her family moved to Meridian, MS, where she received her education in the schools of Lauderdale County. She graduated from Southeast Lauderdale High School in 1966. After graduation she married Franklin McLelland. She gave her life to Jesus Christ when a young adult and soon began her journey as a pastor's wife, assisting her husband in ministry in churches in Meridian, Waynesboro, and Butler, Alabama. She was devoted to her husband, children, and was the good wife and mother. She loved to cook and collect recipe books. She loved life and enjoyed helping people. She took active rolls within the churches she served by teaching children's Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, singing in the choirs, Woman's Missionary Union, participated in several mission projects, and served as Choctaw County Baptist Association Ambassador to the Alabama Baptist Children's Homes. She is survived by her husband of almost 49 years, Reverend Franklin McLelland, Butler, AL; a daughter, Stephanie (Johnny) Houlditch, Butler, AL; a son, Mark McLelland, Meridian, MS; grandchildren, Ryan (Brook) Houlditch, Butler, AL, Kayla (Micheal) Gibson, Butler, AL, Whitney McLelland, Meridian, MS; great grandson, Mason Gibson, Butler, AL; a sister, Velda (Jerry) Peeples, Louise, MS; a brother, Kent (Sarah) Gibson, Meridian, MS; and a sister-in-law, Becky Gibson, Meridian, MS. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Joan Gibson; and daughter-in-law, Angie Brunet McLelland. Pallbearers will be Ryan Houlditch, Micheal Gibson, Walter McLelland, Kenny McLelland, Jeffrey Peeples, and Justin Freeman. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at robertbarhamffh.com.
