Vernon "Lefty" Rawlings

d. July 31, 2016

Funeral services for Lefty Rawlings will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Dr. Raymon Leake officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery.

Mr. Rawlings, 88, of Meridian, passed away July 31 at Poplar Springs Nursing Center.

Lefty’s first love was his family, but his second love was baseball. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, as well as a New Orleans Saints and Ole Miss fan. As a young man, he played for the Cleveland Indians farm team. Lefty’s love of baseball led him to coach local youth teams for fifteen years and his employment with Judge Little Sporting Goods for over forty-years. His gentle nature and sense of humor will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Mary Belle Rawlings; his children, Rhonda (Len) Shannon, Karen (Bob) Camp, and Walker (Kandi) Rawlings; grandchildren, Leah Fetters, Kathryn Hashemi, Braden Shannon, Neil Shannon, Matthew Camp, and Tucker Rawlings and great-grandson, Jack Fetters.

He was preceded in death by his son, Vernon Rawlings, III.

Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at robertbarhamffh.com.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to service at the funeral home.
