Services for Vernon R. "Bobby" Simpson, Jr. will be held Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 10:00 at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Steve Taylor, Jack Kern and Clay Chancellor officiating. Burial will be in Marion Cemetery. Mr. Simpson, 66, of Meridian, died Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Riley Hospital. He was an active member of Russell Baptist Church. Mr. Simpson was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and served on the Meridian Police Department. Survivors include his wife, Rhonda "Roni" Simpson of Meridian; son, Bobby Simpson of Meridian; daughters, Melissa Miller of Meridian, Wendy Simpson of Meridian, Kimberly Simpson of Meridian, Jennifer Simpson of Meridian; grandchildren, Stephen, Christopher, Caleb, Landen, JoeDavid and Blaine; sister, Sue Hatcher and her husband Mike of Meridian; brother, Billy Simpson and his wife Marie of Leakesville, MS; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon R. Simpson, Sr.; mother, Dorothy Simpson Hatcher; and step-father, Arthur "Pappy" Hatcher. The family request memorials be made to the Gideons. Pallbearers will be Corey Chatham, Brandon Mabry, Paul Chatham, Paul Dutton, David Burns and Keith Avera. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Hatcher and Ricky Posey. Visitation will be held Monday, 5-7 at the funeral home.
