Vester Bennett Miles

Services for Vester Bennett Miles will be held Saturday, March 15, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Dano Rainer and Reverend Mike Russell officiating. Burial will be in Arkadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Miles, 85, of Meridian died Thursday, March 13, 2014, at his residence. He served in the United States Army in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1952. Mr. Miles went to work for Norfolk Southern Railroad Rail Road in 1956 and retired in 1990. He was a member of Arkadelphia Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for over forty hears and also helped with maintenance and anything else needed around the church. He was a member of Longstreet Masonic Lodge #268 and was Mississippi Mason of the year in 2001. Mr. Miles also was a shriner and member of the Scottish Rite. He enjoyed quail hunting and family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Dora Rowell Miles, of Meridian; children, Judy Miles and Joy Miles Joyner and husband Kent all of Meridian; grandchildren, Trey Lockley and wife Brandy of Washington State, Austin Owen of Houston, Texas, Justin Owen of Madison, Mississippi, Lacey Joyner of Ashville, North Carolina, Miles Joyner and Cathy Lee both of Meridian; great-grandchildren Riley Lockley, Shae Lockley, Miles Grace Joyner, Lenox Reese Joyner, Ford Joyner, and Sawyer Bennett Joyner; brother, Milburn Miles and wife Larue of DeKalb and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Bob Killen, Quitman Lockley and Buddy Owen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Etta Linton Miles; brothers, Preston Miles, Jasper Miles, Othel Miles, R.L. Miles and James Harold Miles and sister, Juanita Miles Harwell.

Pallbearers will be the deacons of Arkadelphia Baptist Church.
