Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Virginia Darnell Bounds was born in DeKalb, MS., January 25,1931. 89 years later on December 26,2020, the Lord took her home. She and her husband, James William "Billy" Bounds, wed on September 7, 1951, at Liberty Baptist Church in Kemper County. Their wedded path eventually led to the Liberty community where they happily resided for 67 years. Blessed beyond measure, Virginia was a devoted member of Liberty Baptist Church. "Tootsie" or "Mamaw" as she was known saw to it that every person who entered her home, left feeling loved, with a full stomach, and trusting that they were a part of the family. Her true "fame" was claimed by her "chicken and dumplings" and her "coconut cake", which without fail had all headed straight to the front of the line. In 1996, she retired from F.W. Williams Insurance Agency and enjoyed spending her retirement as a devoted grandmother and in service to her church and community. Even in her last days, she smiled joyously as she maintained her unwavering faith in God, and she daily made plans for "singing on stage in the next church program."
She is survived by her children, Brenda Clay and James (Kathy) Bounds. Her six grandchildren Brock (Cissy) Clay, Jas (Kelli) Bounds, Mitzi (Ryan) Kennedy, Brandi (Camp) Keith, Ryan (Emily) Clay, and Brook (Grant) Schaefer, and 13 great grandchildren; Cade, McKenna, Katherine, Grant, Emma, Ashlyn, Rylan, Case, Cooper, Sadie, Loren Grace, Madi Ryan and Jackson. She will additionally be remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband J.W. "Billy" Bounds Sr.; her parents John Thomas "Bud" and Lorena Darnell; her brother Dewayne Clark Darnell; and her sister Lorraine Irby.
We thank God for the gift of our Mother's Life and the blessings of the times we spent with her. " You have given so much and asked so little in return. Thank you for always being there for us, teaching us, listening to us, helping, and forgiving us, loving us, and always, always paving the way for us. We will work hard to reach the standards you set before us. Farewell sweet Momma, you were simply magnificent."
Brock Clay, Jas Bounds, Ryan Clay, Ryan Kennedy, Camp Keith, and Grant Schaefer will serve as pallbearers.
