Burial will be at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Smith, age 92, of Meridian, passed away Monday, March 23, 2015, at Aldersgate Retirement Community. Mrs. Smith was a long-time member of Hebron Baptist Church and the Helping Hand Sunday School class. She worked in many capacities at Hebron, including Sunday School Teacher, WMU President and served on many of the church's committees. After moving to Aldersgate Retirement Community she moved her membership to Westwood Baptist Church where she was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School class. Virginia was known for her quick wit and love of family and friends. She had a heart for Southern Baptist mission work and made it her personal mission to lend a helping hand whenever and wherever it was needed. She spent many hours quilting and her beautiful handiwork is treasured by many with whom she shared her talents. She worked for Burnley Shirt Factory on the cutting room floor and later owned her own beauty shop in the Vimville community. She lived at Aldersgate Retirement Community for 10 years where she was treated with dignity and respect and was shown love and compassion by the staff. Her family would like to express deep appreciation to all the Aldersgate "family" for the excellent care and concern that was shown not only to her but to her extended family, as well. Survivors include her daughter, Lynda Smith Barkley (Paul); granddaughters, Paula Barkley Brown (Matt) and Erin Barkley Hannula (Brian); great grandchildren, Peyton and Kellan Brown, and Brylie and Caden Hannula; nieces, Shirley Jackson James and Bobbe Williams Arnold; and nephew, Richard B. Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Ralph Dale Smith; parents, Clay and Virgie Williams; sisters, Gladys Williams Smith and Willye Clay Williams Jackson; and brother, Tommie B. Williams. Pallbearers will be David Little, Buddy Bennett, Robert (Buddy) Rasberry, Leonard Bennett, Steve Davis and Wayne James. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Gideon's International. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at robertbarhamffh.com.
