Funeral services for Vivian Juanice Brown Evans will be held Monday, August 10, 2015, at 10:00a.m., at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home. Her final resting place will be at Briggs Chapel Cemetery in Porterville, Mississippi. Mrs. Evans, 79, of Meridian, passed away on Thursday, August 6, at Bedford Care Center in Marion. Known by family and friends as Juanice, she led a very active life. She started the first Police Auxiliary in El Centro, California. She retired in 2009 as the Director of the Kemper County Chamber of Commerce after serving for nearly twenty-five years. She also started the Junior Chamber of Commerce for high school students in Kemper County. In 1987, she was voted the Kemper County Citizen of the Year, and in 2003, she was the recipient of the Sonny Montgomery Patriot Award. In 2006, Mrs. Evans received the Mississippi Distinguished Civilian Service Medal from the Mississippi National Guard. She started the Veterans Memorial brick walkway at the DeKalb courthouse. Until her retirement, she worked closely with the local chapter of the Red Cross and was a frequent guest on Meridian television and radio stations. She has been a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and for over fifty years, locally to the chapter Epsilon Eta, a community service organization, where she achieved the rank of Master. Mrs. Evans is a member of Marion United Methodist Church. Juanice is survived by her husband of sixty-two years, Sam Bell Evans; daughters, Debra Lynn Evans Asmus and her husband, James, and Patricia Kay Evans Parnell and her husband, Perry; and son, Sam Bill Evans. She has six granddaughters, two great-grandsons, two great-granddaughters living and two great-granddaughters that were called home by God too early. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert L. and Vivian Coker Brown; brothers, R.L. Brown and Kenneth Lynn Brown; sisters, Ida Elizabeth Brown Vick, Edna Earle Brown Wilder Moore, and infant twin sisters, Annette and Jeanette Brown.
