Walter Louis "Rabbit" Ivey A private graveside service for Walter Louis "Rabbit" Ivey will be held on Friday, July 11, 2014, with Dr. Raymon Leake officiating. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements. Walter Louis "Rabbit" Ivey, most beloved and devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in his home on July 9, 2014. He was 83 years old. His family was his life and their happiness and wellbeing was always his first priority. He will always be remembered for the love he shared selflessly and endlessly and for the example he set. He loved his friends and treasured his friendships, and did his very best to help all those he could. All who knew him will remember his sense of humor and wit, his athletic ability, and his enthusiasm for cars and computers. Rabbit was born in Meridian, Mississippi on June 24th, 1931. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict, and was commissioned as an Army officer. He then served in the United States Air Force and Mississippi Air National Guard, retiring as a Colonel after over 40 years of service to his country. After retirement from military service, he worked with Lockheed and Grumman Aerospace at Meridian Naval Air Station supporting the flight missions of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Evelyn Ivey, and by two sons, Kevin and his wife Robin, and Steve and his wife Debbie, both of Meridian. He is also survived by four adoring grandchildren, Taylor Ivey of Nashville, Tennessee, and Matthew Ivey, Hannah Ivey and Rachel Ivey, all of Meridian. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ivey and father, Walter Lee Ivey, his brother, Clinton Lavelle Ivey and twin sister, Louise Jarman.
