Wavelene Crenshaw, age 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 5, 2025 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
She was born on September 8, 1934, to her parents in Greenville, South Carolina. She grew up in South Carolina, where she met the love of her life and future husband, Carl Crenshaw, while he was serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After his time of service, they were married and relocated to Meridian, Mississippi, where they would spend the majority of their lives together building a home and raising their family.
Wavelene was a wonderful, loving, and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She dedicated her life to God and her family, always placing their needs above her own. Her working career was spent primarily in the retail industry in Meridian, where she was known for her kindness, reliability, and warm spirit.
Her church life began in Meridian at Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church, where she faithfully served for many years. She volunteered in the nursery, Vacation Bible School, Women’s Missionary Union, and Young at Heart, along with many other activities within the church.
She loved spending time with her family, first and foremost. She was always ready to give, expecting little to nothing in return, and found her greatest joy in simply being present with those she loved.
Her extended family was enhanced when she was accepted into the assisted living program at North River Village in Tuscaloosa. The staff and residents all loved her, and she loved them in return. You could always find her in the commons area watching TV, playing dominos, or rocking in the chairs on the front porch watching the traffic go by.
Wavelene will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her gentle spirit, faithful heart, and giving nature will remain a lasting example to her family and friends.
Mrs. Crenshaw is survived by her daughters, Pam Allen and Ann Petrich (John); her grandchildren, Brittany Thomas (Seth), Megan Adams (Cody), Jennifer Scruggs (Steven), and Joseph Allen; and her great-grandchildren, Levi Thomas, Sawyer Thomas, Asher Adams, and Avery Adams
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Crenshaw; her parents, Elmore and Nellie Reese; her brother, Troy Reese; and her son-in-law, Joseph Allen.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests sharing memorial contributions with Hospice of West Alabama.
