Wayne L. Wahrendorff Funeral services for Wayne L. Wahrendorff will be held Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 10:00 am at Poplar Springs Drive United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Doctor Larry Hilliard and Doug Deweese officiating. Burial will be at Magnolia Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Wahrendorff, age 92, of Meridian, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014. He graduated from Meridian High School and continued at Meridian Jr. College. Wayne was drafted in 1943 into the Army and served in England until the end of war. In 1948 he went full-time into the Mississippi Army National Guard, retiring in 1982. After retirement, Wayne volunteered many years as one of the CREW (Christian Retirees Enjoying Working) for Habitat for Humanity. As a result, in 2003, he was named Citizen of the Year by the Meridian Civitan Club. He was a lifelong Methodist, growing up in Fifth Street and was an active member of Poplar Springs until his death. A devoted husband, he tenderly cared for Carmin until her death, 20 years after her diagnosis of MS. He was an active grandfather which gave him great pride and joy. Survivors include his daughters Christi Bertram and husband, Kim, Peg Wahrendorff and husband, Phillip Maples and Bet Deweese and husband, Doug; grandchildren Laura LeBouef, Emily Maples, Dylan Maples, Carly Deweese Brimer, Matthew Deweese and Thomas Deweese; two great-grandchildren; and nieces Pam Vincent Fowlkes and Daphne Vincent Lancaster. He is preceded in death by his wife, Carmin Carr Wahrendorff; his parents, Fred and Ollie; and brother, Fred.
