Wilbur "W.C." Winstead Services for Wilbur "W.C." Winstead will be held Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Highland Baptist Church with Dr. Carl White officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in House, MS with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Winstead, 86, of Meridian died Monday, October 22, 2012 at Anderson Regional Medical Center. W. C. was born in the House community. Upon high school graduation, he served in the US Navy in World War II with tours in the Pacific Theater, including the battle of Iwo Jima. He started in the construction business in 1952 and in 1954 obtained one of the very first broker's licenses issued by the State of Mississippi. For many years, he was an appraiser, builder, as well as the broker at Winstead Realty. He served in numerous offices of the Meridian Board of Realtors, including President and was named Realtor of the Year and was recognized with The Tony L. Winsted Lifetime Achievement Award, one of only three Realtors to have the award. Through the years, he built over 300 homes and developed, or was involved in the development of several subdivisions, including Baughman and Winstead, Normandale, Northcrest, Cedar Ridge, Tanglewood, Whippoorwill Village, Timbercove and Pleasant Acres. He served on numerous boards and committees, including the Soil and Water Conservation Board, NTS Water Association, the Lauderdale County Farm Supply and the Lauderdale County Prison Board. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church where he served on several committees. He previously served as deacon at Calvary Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Thellis S. Winstead of Meridian; son, Terry Winstead of Meridian; daughter-in-law, Michele Winstead of Meridian; three grandchildren, Lauren, Mitchell and Emma Winstead; twin sister, Milbur Posey and her husband, Pat of Meridian; sister Mary Adkins of Meridian; brothers, Arlo Winstead and his wife Dot of House, MS; Jack Winstead and his wife Jeanette of Jackson, MS; Wayne Winstead and his wife, Nannette of House; sisters-in-law, Inez Winstead of Atlanta, GA; Patsy Holloway of Meridian; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Tony Winstead; brother, Elmo Winstead; parents, Carl and Zula Winstead. The family requests memorials be made to W. C. Winstead Scholarship Fund at Meridian Community College or Highland Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Allen Winstead, Mark Adkins, Ronnie Posey, Markey Joiner, Bunky Smith and Kinsey Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be his nephews.
