William "Bill" George Bernard Services for William "Bill" George Bernard will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Wayne Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton, MS with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Bill, 82, of Meridian, MS was called home to be with his heavenly father on Saturday, February 8, 2014. Bill was a member of 15th Ave Baptist Church. Bill graduated in 1943 from Washington Irving High School Clarksburg, WV. He joined the United States Air Force in 1951, serving 8 years as a weather forecaster. He worked for the Meridian Star from 1970, retiring in 1992. He will be remembered as a strong courageous, responsible, loving husband, father, and grandfather, beloved by his family. Most importantly he is with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mary Lou Wininger Bernard; sons Gary Bernard and David Andrew "Andy" Bernard and wife Christi Fox Bernard of Meridian; two daughters Carol Bibee and husband Mike of Nashville, TN and Rita Dearman and husband Bill of Meridian; nine grandchildren, Summer Bernard Hungate of Byhalia, MS, Jeremy Glisson of Maryville, TN and Michelle Glisson Hastings of Harriman, TN. Laurie Bernard of Houston, TX, Evan Bernard of Gulf Breeze, FL, Andrew and Alley Bernard of Meridian, MS, Elijah and Sawyer Dearman of Meridian, MS; great-grandchildren, Sam, Emma, Sarah, Kassidy, Nathanial, Chase, and Heather. Sister, Joanne Cook and husband Robert of Lady Lake, FL; and brother Jim Bernard and wife Donna of Seminole, FL. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, George and Violet Bernard; two brothers, Larry and Jack Bernard all of Bridgeport, WV; and one grandchild, Matthew Bernard.
