William L. "Bill" Kirby, Jr. Services for William L. "Bill" Kirby, Jr. will be held Sunday, March 11, 2012, at 2:30 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Charles Robbins officiating. Burial will be in Briggs Chapel Cemetery in Porterville with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Kirby, 84, of Porterville died Friday, March 9, 2012, at his residence. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Kirby earned his electrical engineering degree from Mississippi State University and was an avid State Fan. He retired from the Meridian Naval Air Station where he was head of the Environmental Department. Mr. Kirby was a member of Porterville United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife Betty Webb Kirby of Porterville, son Bill Kirby and wife Connie of Birmingham, Alabama, daughters Donna Langston and husband Brian of Birmingham, Alabama, Kathy Shepherd of Birmingham, Alabama and Jackie Covington of Porterville, Mississippi, grandchildren Krissie Kirby, Carolyn Kirby, Katie Langston, Clay Langston and wife Lisa, Amanda Shepherd, Ashley Shepherd all of Birmingham, Alabama and Charlie Covington of Meridian, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents William L. Kirby, Sr. and Mildred H. Kirby, sister Letitia K. Aldredge and son-in-law Louis Covington.
