William C. "Bill" Downs AT 1 US Navy Ret. Services for William "Bill" Downs will be held Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 11:00 at The Church of the Mediator, with Reverend Helen Tester officiating. Mr. Downs, 76, of Meridian, died Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the VA Home in Kosciusko, MS. He was a US Navy Veteran and retired from Delco Remy after twenty years. Mr. Downs was the first person hired as an hourly wage employee at Delco Remy. Children will remember him as portraying St. Nicholas on the St. Nicholas Feast Day at the Church of the Mediator. Survivors include his wife, Lois Downs of Meridian; son, Mark Downs of McMinnville, TN; daughters, Lynn Windham (Terry) of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Tracie Trail of Alma, Ark.; seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter; two nieces, Leta Palmiter and Sherry Gould and the children of Meridian; special friends Lisa and Jon Jackson of Meridian. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lida Downs. The family request memorials be made to The Church of the Mediator.
