Winnie Frances Maddox Curtis
As Mother’s Day came to a close, Ms. Winnie Frances Maddox Curtis was called home to her Lord and Master on May 8, 2016 after spending her final day on earth with her family by her side.
Funeral Services for Ms. Curtis will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home, with the Reverends Doug Goodman, Bill Webb, and Mike Everett officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Meridian, with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Ms. Curtis, 95, of Meridian, MS was a loving mother to her daughters Peggy Joyce Mosley and Lynn Ann White (Jimmy). “Granny” was a devoted grandmother to Kyle White (Heather), Phillip Mosley (Shea), Shannon Coleman (Adrian), Melissa Graham (Darren), Tanya Coffey (Ben), and Elke White. “Nana” was a caring great grandmother to Ann Hadley Graham, Addison Hart Mosley, Ava Claire Mosley, Peyton Coleman, Hays Graham, Ethan Coffey, Morgan White, Devin Coleman, Erin Coffey, and Hunter Graham. She was a loving Aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph & Mittie Maddox; a brother, Lamar Maddox; a sister, Lottie Mae Gould (Ernest); former husband, Leonard Hart Curtis; and a grandson, Tim White.
The family is appreciative to a number of caregivers who were dedicated to Ms. Curtis’ care especially Dr. J.C. Matthews III and Shea Mosley.
Winnie was the Valedictorian of Hickory High School’s Class of 1937. She graduated with her Associate’s degree from East Central Junior College. She served as Bookkeeper for 31 years of loyal service to Lauderdale County Welfare Department. Ms. Curtis served as Secretary of New Hope Baptist Church A.W.E. group, member of Senior Singers, and President of her Sunday School Class.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and cooking. Some of her specialties were her tea cakes and black bottom pie that she often shared with everyone. She enjoyed watching Paula Deen and trying new recipes. She knew every nursery rhyme and song that was ever written and loved to quote them to her grandchildren. Her hugs were tight squeezes and her love was well known.
Her grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as Pallbearers.
