Lt Colonel Robert Charles “Charlie” Welch
Memorial services for Lt Colonel Robert Charles Welch will be held Friday, October 28, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at Toomsuba Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Welch, age 70, of Toomsuba, passed away October 25 at Anderson’s.
Mr. Welch was born in Miami, Florida on May 14, 1946 to Milton Charles and Lottice Duffy Welch. He later moved with his family to Toomsuba, Mississippi. He was a graduate of Sumter County High School, Class of 64, and received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the Livingston University (University of West Alabama) where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He served in the Marine Corps Reserves for 35 years including a tour in Vietnam. He returned to Lauderdale County in 1973 where he was an engineer for BellSouth for many years before retiring to his family home in Toomsuba.
He is survived by his children, Shelley Welch (Thad) George, Lauren Ross Welch, and Robert Charles “Robb” Welch II; grandchildren Zachary Scott Tabb, Mason Taylor (Jordin) Tabb, Landon Buckley George, Cooper Thad George, and Kinsey Ross George; and brothers Edward Duffy Welch and Stephen Perry Welch.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Sandra Welch Niehuss and Beverly Welch Allen. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at robertbarhamffh.com
The visitation will be Thursday, October 27, 2016, from 5:00 – 7:00 at the funeral home.
