Funeral services for M.L. “Buddy” Coleman will be held Friday, December 4, 2015, at 3:00 p.m., at Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church, with Reverends James Ruffin and Dr. John Temple officiating. Burial will be at Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Coleman, 90, of Meridian, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2015, at Aldersgate.
Buddy was born in Mobile, Alabama. Upon graduation from Murphy High School, he served his country in the US Navy during WWII at Okinawa and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Afterwards, he came home to begin an insurance career that lasted over thirty years, and covered five Southern states, as an agent, district manager, and vice-president. He became President of the Mississippi Life Underwriters Association, was founder and first President of the Sales and Marketing Executive Club of Meridian, and a member for over fifty years of the Meridian Civitan Club. He was listed in several Who’s Who publications, and was founder of the National Kidney Foundation of Mississippi. He was the owner of numerous local businesses and was a partner in a land development corporation. He was an active member of Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church for over fifty years, serving as Sunday school teacher and Director, Chairman of the Deacons, and many other committees.
He is survived by his wife of seventy-one years, Joyce Kelley Coleman; daughter, Connie C. Davis (Joe) Flory, sons, Judge Frank (Donna) Coleman and Dr. Woodie (Susan) Coleman; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther W. and Carrie Coleman.
The family requests memorials be made to a memorial fund in his name at Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church.
