Funeral services for Dr. Kay Hills will begin at 11:30 AM, Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home chapel with the Reverend Dr. Randy Rich officiating. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Quitman, MS. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Dr. Hills, 81, of Meridian, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS surrounded by her loving family.
Dr. Hills received her Doctorate of Education degree from Mississippi State University. She taught in numerous schools including Jackson Academy, Quitman Schools, the Meridian School System, and Mississippi State University, both in Starkville and Meridian, where she taught Education classes. Dr. Hills specialized in homebased special education; she will be remembered as a loving educator who taught numerous children, including those who were disabled and troubled. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Meridian, MS, and was a member of The Order of Eastern Star in Meridian.
Kay loved her family and friends, especially her Yorkies, George, Gracie, and Buster. She never had an unkind word for anyone she met; she loved and cherished all those around her. Dr. Hills had an infectious sense of humor and could always be found laughing and sharing joy with those she met.
Dr. Hills is survived by her husband of over 30 years, Fred Hills; her children John Mitchell (Suzanne), James Mitchell (Pam), and Warren Hills (Kellyjean). Grandchildren Brett Mitchell, Kristen Mitchell, Brandon Mitchell, John Mitchell, IV, Mary Mitchell, Russell Hills, and Samuel Hills, and one great granddaughter, Ava Ann Patterson. Her nephew Paul Hamilton; and nieces, Laura Kay Hamilton and Heather Hamilton; as well as a host of extended family members and friends.
Dr. Kay is preceded in death by her parents Dr. James R. and Frances Hamilton; her brother Jim Hamilton; and her son Russell Page Hills.
The Hills family suggests memorials be made as donations to the Alzheimer’s Association in lieu of flowers.
Pallbearers will be John Mitchell, III, Jamie Mitchell, Warren Hills, Brett Mitchell, Brandon Mitchell, and John Mitchell, IV.
